Check out our client’s BEFORE and AFTER dating profile
If you think you slapping together a quick bio is all you need to do to find success in the online dating world, think again. A hastily put-together or generic bio profile can lead to missed opportunities with great people.
We helped our client Holly, a 61-year-old health care worker in New York City, create a new dating profile with more flattering photos and a more engaging bio.
Already she’s seen a difference in the quality of men she’s attracting and is feeling more hopeful about her prospects.
Your bio is your digital dating card and you want to prepare it in a thoughtful way. Consider: How do you want to present yourself? What are the best photos to use? What should you say about who you are and the kind of person you are looking for?
Trust us, the more thought and care you put into your profile, the better luck you’ll have in attracting the right people (we can help you — more info on that below!).
Your bio doesn’t need to be long (in Holly’s case it’s only 500 characters — the maximum amount allowed on Tinder, which is the site she’s opted for) but it does need to stand out.
Here are 4 tips to putting your best self forward online:
1. Be authentic
Showcase the real you. It’s tempting to write what you think people want to hear, but authenticity is what truly resonates with potential matches. Share your hobbies, interests, and anything that makes you unique. When you share genuine interests, you're more likely to find someone with common passions, making it easier to connect on a deeper level.
2. Keep it positive
Negativity has no place in your dating bio. While it’s okay to have preferences or deal-breakers, focusing too much on what you don’t want can be a turnoff. Instead, concentrate on what you do want and what you bring to the table. A positive and upbeat bio is not only more attractive but also more inviting.
3. Be specific
Phrases like "I love to travel" or "I enjoy the outdoors" don’t provide much insight into who you are. Be specific to make your profile memorable. Instead of saying, "I love traveling," try, "I’ve been to 10 countries and counting, and I love getting lost in the streets of new cities while trying local foods." Having specific details also gives potential matches something to connect with in their initial messages.
4. Use the right tone
Your bio should strike a balance between casual and meaningful. Too short, and it may seem like you’re not putting in the effort; too long, and it may overwhelm readers or make you seem self-centered. Aim for a tone that’s inviting, conversational, and balanced. Don’t forget to add a question or a call to action to encourage engagement.
