Millions of women are sharing information about the guys they’ve dated

red flag dating

Women who are dating online worry about a lot of things, including: “Is he a scammer?” “Is he married?” “Is he pretending to be monogamous while dating multiple women? “Is he really who he says he is?”

Now, there’s a way to find out.

I was fascinated to learn about “Are We Dating the Same Guy?,” the name of a private Facebook group with hundreds of chapters across North America for women to post about toxic men they’ve dated as a way to warn other single women about them.

The posts usually include a man’s photo, age, and the area they live in with warnings like “Run from this man,” followed by red flag emojis. Some women post a photo and ask others online if they’ve ever dated this man. The Facebook pages contain lots of heartbreaking stories about being lied to, cheated on, and more.

Millions of women across the U.S. and Canada are on these sites. The Toronto, Ontario, site has more than 50,000 members, for example.

A word of warning: While the Facebook groups can help steer women away from the bad guys, lawyers have argued that those who create such posts online should exercise caution because they could open themselves up to defamation suits, especially if the man they are posting about is high profile and/or has the resources to launch a lawsuit. They encourage people to stick to the facts they know to be true and to be cautious about the language they use.
